Sterling Rugs

Bhadohi, India

Sterling Rugs is an Indian carpet maker that grew out of a family weaving business. Its founder Nauman is the sixth generation in carpet weaving, an English graduate of Delhi University who branched the family trade into carpet manufacturing. Its main line is a transitional and modern range of Tibetan rugs, hand knotted from lanolin rich Tibetan wool that is hand carded and hand spun before it reaches the loom, often worked with silk yarns. The range is grouped into five design families called Blend, ModernArt, Earth Elements, Origami and Legacy, covering abstract naturals, modern art, geometrics, foliage, calligraphy and tribal iconography, and the company keeps a traditional range beside it. Buyers can specify custom sizes and match colour against a palette of about 1,600 shades. Sterling Rugs is a member of Rugmark, the global nonprofit working to end child labour.
