Shubhpriya Rugs and Furnishings trades as The Rug Furnish, a Jaipur maker of handmade rugs and carpets that presents itself as a designer and manufacturer rather than a trader. The company works in hand knotted and hand woven construction using handspun wool, bamboo silk, real silk and viscose, and it releases new collections twice a year, in March and October. Its catalogue is organised into named ranges including Pearl, Sapphire, Emerald, Topaz, Zircon, Ecstatic, Mod Heritage and Fusion, and it takes custom work on colour, motif and design, with sizes of four by five metres and above. Rohit Paliwal leads the business and by his own account brings twenty five years in home decor and fifteen years in the carpet industry. The company sells worldwide and shows at international trade fairs, and it works from Saini Colony in Kartarpura, Jaipur.
Pearl rugs are made from high quality wool and bamboo silk, which the company says gives a soft feel underfoot. The designs run to abstract, symmetrical patterns in bold colour, and Pearl is the smallest of the named ranges at five pieces.
The Sapphire range is built around shimmering viscose rugs that set traditional styling against modern ideas, hand crafted in pure wool. Sapphire pieces are offered in rectangles, hallway runners, foyer rugs, rounds and squares.
Emerald rugs are hand crafted in wool and real silk, in rich forest greens and deep ocean blues worked with close detailed weaving. The natural fibres carry the colour, and at more than fifty designs it is one of the widest ranges the company keeps.
Topaz rugs are woven from rich quality silk in earthy colours drawn from nature, with transitional patterns of waterfalls, falling leaves and raindrops on flower petals. The texture is fine and the collection runs to around twenty five designs.
Zircon takes traditional ideas into handspun wool, with bold damask and diamond motifs and rose cut gem shapes worked for a glimmering surface. It is the largest range in the catalogue at around sixty designs.
