Obeetee has been making handmade rugs at Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh since 1920. Its work is hand knotted, hand tufted, flat woven and hand loomed, made in weavers' homes rather than in a factory, and the company works with around 25,000 weavers and keeps some 4,000 shades of wool. Production officers visit looms at least fortnightly across seven villages in the Mirzapur and Bhadohi belt. Raw materials are tested and colours standardised at each stage. Alongside rugs it makes cushions and lumbar covers, cotton, linen and silk bedding, throws and furniture, in collections including Viraasat, Persian Saga, Silk Route, Gond Art and Atelier Botanica. It has retail stores in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Pune and Ahmedabad, and at the Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour, in London.
