Hand-knotted carpets, handloom rugs, durries, hand-tufted carpets
Pile knotted entirely by hand on the loom, with the knot count fixed by the design the weavers follow. After weaving the pile is clipped, the carpet washed, and the ends secured by hand.
Flatwoven rugs and durries made on a handloom without a pile layer, the yarn interlaced so the fabric sits low and lies flat. The same construction carries stripes, bands and geometric blocks well.
A tufting gun drives loops of yarn through a stretched primary backing traced with the design, and latex fixes them before the backing cloth goes on. Loops are either left uncut or sheared to make a cut pile.
