Bhadohi, India
Carpet International was founded in Bhadohi in 1992 by Pramod Baranwal and is now run by his sons Prashant and Pranav Baranwal as co partners. The company counts IKEA among its clients. It makes hand loom rugs, hand knotted and hand tufted carpets, flat weave in jute and wool, broad loom, scatters, wall art and a home furnishing line running to cushions and pillows, poufs, throws, yoga mats, placemats and bed spreads. Dyeing is done in house on modern equipment and the family traces its yarn dyeing back to 1925. It has received an Environmental and Working Condition Compliance Award in two separate years.
Hand knotted carpets are tied knot by knot on the loom and shown as numbered designs in the company gallery. The line is one of eight ranges made at the Bhadohi works.
Hand tufted rugs are made with hand operated tufting guns on stretched canvas in the company's own tufting area. The range is split into modern, Persian, floral and shaped rug groups.
Hand loom rugs are woven by the traditional warp and weft method in the company's hand loom area. They are one of the eight product ranges listed in the catalogue.
Flat weave is listed in two groups, jute and wool. It is woven at the Bhadohi works alongside the pile ranges.
Broad loom is the company's wide width floor covering range. It is listed with scatters and wall art among the eight product lines.
The home furnishing line covers cushions and pillows, poufs, throws, yoga mats, placemats and bed spreads. It is made at the same Bhadohi works as the floor coverings.
