Bikaner Handloom Carpets is the carpet arm of the M.M. Wool group of Bikaner, a family business that has traded raw wool for around seven decades and opened its first spinning plant in 1972. Carpet production began in 1992 and the business is now run by the third generation of the founding families. The company weaves handwoven, hand tufted and flat weave carpets and broadloom in widths up to five metres, working with more than 500 home based artisans across Bikaner. Materials run from 100 percent pure virgin wool to merino felt, tencel, nylon and viscose, including a mag felt line. It holds ISO 9001 certification and a Woolmark brand partnership, exports to the USA, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Italy, Australia and Brazil, and has shown at DOMOTEX in Hanover since 2012.
Made in house from 100 percent merino wool in a range of thicknesses and constructions, this is the material the company says most manufacturers cannot get hold of. Designs are carried under codes such as 3619, 3696, 3774, 3762 and 3186.
A blend of New Zealand wool with viscose fibre that the company uses for sheen and colour variation across its ranges. Designs run under codes 3009, 3140, 3607, 3106 and 3890.
A hand tufted range built from the wool and viscose blended yarn, carrying what the company calls lofty textures. It is shown under code 8108.
Handwoven rugs are made on looms by more than 500 home based artisans working across Bikaner. Wool is the base material, with tencel, nylon and viscose used in some ranges.
Flat weave is one of seven ranges the company lists alongside mag felt, broadloom, rugs, hand tufted, handwoven and shaggies. It is woven in Bikaner from yarn spun by the group.
